Heroes of Khemer
Deposed Archbishop of Elsir Vale
Octagnius has a fringe of grey-white hair around his balding, mottled scalp. He has a wizened face and a back slightly hunched. His face has the resigned look of one who knows that at his age life has stopped giving and only takes away.
Once a proud and noble knight, Octagnius found that his skill in politics matched his skill with a blade, and rose quickly through the ranks of the Kindred and the Church of Light. He reached the pinnacle of his career when he was raised to the position of Archbishop of Elsir Vale. For years Octagnius ruled his diocese and learned to love the power that came with it, but was also stymied in his advancement when he was passed over for election to Patriarch.
With no room to grow, Octagnius became bitter and he resented being overlooked for Patriarch, a position he felt was rightfully his. As his body succumbed to the years of time, the Archbishop became disillusioned with the Church and began looking for ways to prolong his life here on earth, as he was no longer interested in serving at the foot of the Lord of Light in the heavens.
Octagnius found what he was looking for when he stumbled across some writings confiscated from a dragon cult. In these writings, the cult promised life ever after to those most loyal and devout, and promised to share the power and prestige with those who could bring about the return of the Dark Queen, Tiamat.
With his allegiance secretly switched to Tiamat, the false Archbishop began orchestrating events in Elsir Vale to bring about that return. He plotted in secret with hobgoblin and dragon emissaries to weaken the Vale by eliminating the Duchess of Allondale and preventing the union of the human controlled lands.
Octagnius’ plot was uncovered by the Heroes of the Vale and was thwarted in his plans. He has been taken into custody and is now awaiting trial for treason and heresy in the Shining Citadel in Brindol.
